Saudi Arabia’s economy is based on oil. Saudi oil reserves are the second largest in the world (approx. 18 % of the world reserves), and its gas reserves the sixth largest.

Saudi Arabia is the world’s leading oil exporter and second largest producer.
The income from the petroleum and gas sectors equates to almost the total of the government revenues (92.5% of Saudi budget), 97% of export earnings, and 55% of GDP.

The workforce is consisted mostly of foreign workers, approx. 7,500,000 (official estimate).
These foreign professionals play a very important role in the oil and service sectors and are vital for the country’s economy.

The construction sector

The private sector is taking the lead in the Saudi construction sectorand that makes the big 5 Saudi 2017 very intresting.

In Riyadh, a number of private-sector construction projects are already moving forward, including the Al-Faisaliyah complex at a total cost of $320 million, the Kingdom Trade Center at a total cost of $533 million, the Qasr Al-Murabba complex at a total investment of $166 million, the National Company for Cooperative Insurance office complex at a total cost of $110 million, the Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) office building at a total cost of $160 million, Riyadh Downtown project (Ta’ameer) for a total cost of $500 million, the Saudi Consolidated Electric Company project at a total cost of $130 million and the Riyadh Metro (with contracts of $23.5bn and a total length of 176km).

ABOUT THE BIG 5 SAUDI

The successful history of Big 5 Saudi started on March 2011 and is the Kingdom’s largest and fastest growing construction show. In 2016 was held the 6th session of the show, which has evolved to a unique meeting place for exhibitors and buyers looking to gain a share of the Kingdom’s profitable and productive USD $732 bn. construction industry.

The exhibition is presenting building materials, construction material and equipment construction designs and all associated with building and construction.

The evolution of the show is appears in the data of the recent years:

The exhibition space, from 9,535m2 in 2013 reached the 10,493m2 in 2016. The exhibitors were 476 in 2013, while in 2016 were 547. The trade visitors were 10,006 in 2013 and 14,985 in 2016. The 2016 edition of the show also had 21,180 total participants, 35 exhibiting countries, while 29 educational events were held.

VISITORS PROFILE

The Big 5 Saudi has seen an increase of 20% in visitors.

There are important reasons explaining this impressive increase.

The show presented the latest international products as 70% of the exhibitors were international. More than 500 exhibitors showcased around 7,500 innovative products.

In addition the interested commercial visitors were able to find concrete products and technologies at the dedicated Concrete Zone. Outside of the PMV Zone live demonstrations took place from a spectrum of products such as earthmoving equipment, tower cranes and lifting equipment.

The access to the free certified workshops and seminars providing continuing professional development was free.

Visitors from across the whole of Saudi Arabia and the wider region attend The Big 5 Saudi to gain access to the free certified CPD educational sessions we offer, as well as the thousands of innovative and sustainable products on display from our international exhibitors.

Here must be noticed the extended coverage of activities for the whole West Coast of the Kingdom, with the booming construction sector, which includes new cities construction, railway systems, harbors and most of the countries mega projects. The majority of the Saudis visited the exhibition were from the west coast area.

VISITORS’ ORIGIN BY CITY, WITHIN THE KINGDOM

As referred already most of the visitors’ origin were the cities of the West Coast of the K.S.A.
Jeddah (9,892), Makkah (756) and Medina (244) with 10,982 Saudi visitors contributed the 85% of the total. The rest main cities of origin inside the KSA were, Riyadh (703), Dammam (235), Al Khobar (197), other (899).

EDUCATION

One of the key features of The Big 5 Saudi is the free certified educational workshops available for visitors to attend. The introduction of Saudi FIDIC is among the many hot topics on the educational agenda as the regulatory environment in Saudi Arabia evolves to include the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) system.

The adaption of a local version of the FIDIC contracts will encourage the interested parties to review and negotiate the terms in order to provide contractors with more comfort regarding their contractual rights and their risk profile.

THE NEXT BIG 5 SAUDI SHOW

The next Big 5 Saudi will be held 27 – 30 March 2017 in Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events and will showcase the latest innovations for regional and international construction professionals.
